Located in the northwest of ShangHai, JiaDing District covers an area of 458.8 square kilometers and is about 20 km away from downtown ShangHai. Activities around JiaDing include science, technology, and cultural business. There are numerous scenic spots and historic sites which are mainly situated in the historical and cultural towns of JiaDing and NanXiang, making JiaDing one of the important cultural sites of ShangHai.

The manufacturing of autos and auto fittings is a mainstay of the economy in JiaDing and the high development of the auto industry has won the district the name of "Auto City". The ShangHai International Automobile Center that covers an area of over 60 square kilometers was built in the ancient charming AnTing Town. This is where Shanghai Volkswagen is based. With AnTing Town been developed as one of the largest international automotive trading, exhibition,logistic, R&D, information and service centers in Asia.

The ShangHai International Circuit is also located in JiaDing District.
